Guest Blogging – 5 Reasons Why It’s Better Than Blog Commenting

It seems like there are a ton of people out there who think the secret to SEO success is through blog commenting.  But, if you really want to get more bang for your buck, consider doing some guest blogging.

What is guest blogging?

When you guest blog, you contact a blog owner in your niche, and offer to write up a guest post for them.  They get free content (which can be a lifesaver for busy bloggers!), and you get a link at the bottom, plus access to all of their readers.
You don’t even have to be a blog owner to take advantage of guest blogging.  There are plenty of website owners all over the world who do guest posts to promote their own blog-free site.

So, now that you know what it is – why is guest blogging better than blog commenting?  Here are 5 great reasons:

1.  Guest blogging doesn’t lump you in with spammers

Blog comment sections have been taken over by spammers who just want a quick backlink from a powerful blog.  Unfortunately, those spammers have ruined it for everyone else.  Many bloggers have stopped approving any comments that have links in them – no matter how thought-provoking they may be.  And, many bloggers will also not accept comments that have a keyword in the ‘name’ box, instead of a real name.

Bottom line – all of your blog commenting doesn’t do you any good if your comments are never approved.

With guest blogging, though, you’ve spoken to the blog owner in advance, so you know that your awesome content (and your link!) are going to be published for the world to see.  It may take longer to create a guest blogging post, but at least you know that your hard work is time well-spent.

2.  Guest blogging drives traffic to your site

Do you bother to scroll through all of the comments at the bottom of a blog post and check out every link?  Neither does anyone else.  Blog commenting isn’t going to bring you an increase in traffic.

If your comment gets approved, you’ll get a backlink from the blog, but that’s it.  However, with guest blogging, you get a quality link and more traffic.  If people are impressed by your guest post, they’ll head to your site to see what else you have to offer.  One great guest post can give you a surge of new traffic.

3.  Guest blogging establishes you as an expert

Anyone can drop a link in a comment, hit ‘post’, and hope their comment gets approved.  However, it takes skill to do guest blogging.  Guest blog posts give you a chance to show off your expertise in front of a highly-targeted audience.

4.  Guest blogging gives you full control over your anchor text
Even if you get a link-filled comment approved, you may not be able to post the anchor text you want.  However, with guest blogging, you can use any anchor text you want.  The link is similar to a resource box on an article directory – you write it, and have full control over what anchor text you use.

5. Guest blogging gives you a chance to network
Other respected bloggers in your niche may see your guest post and ask you to write one for their site.  With guest blogging, you never know who is going to read your post and be impressed by it.  A great guest post can grab the attention of major movers and shakers in your niche – people who aren’t going to notice (or care about) your blog commenting skills.
